The Connection Between Domestic Rape Statistics and Domestic Violence
There is a strong connection between domestic violence, sexual assault and domestic rape; which are all about demeaning, intimidating and exerting power over another person. According to data from the National Coalition of Domestic Violence, between 40 and 45 percent of women in abusive relationships will also be sexually assaulted during the course of the relationship compared to 14 – 25 percent of women in relationships not marked by abuse. According to VAWnet, about 10 – 14 percent of married women experience marital rape in the US.

May is bike month which means people are encouraged to get out there and ride their bikes. With the weather warming up in the Pacific Northwest, there are more cyclists on the road. Drivers and cyclists both need to do their parts to reduce bicycle accidents, which often involve a crash between a motor vehicle and a bicycle.
Washington fatal pedestrian and bicycle accidents doubled between 2013-2017
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Active Transportation Annual Safety Report was released in March 2018. It showed that Washington pedestrian and bicycle deaths doubled over four years between 2013 and 2017 with 60 deaths in 2013 and 122 in 2017 (pedestrians shouldered most of the increase in fatalities). Pedestrian and bicycle accident injuries went up 31 percent during these years, from 351 in 2013 to 461 in 2017.

As reported by MPRnews.org, the class action lawsuit represents about 50,000 people who were covered by the United plans between 2011 and 2017 and who were denied coverage for treatment of behavioral health and substance use problems. The suit accuses the corporation of limiting coverage for urgent behavioral and substance abuse issues and denying coverage for treatment of the underlying, longer-term conditions that led to the urgent issues.

The woman bled to death after giving birth to her last child, Lillian, in July 2015 at Broward General Hospital. A Broward County jury awarded $24.5 million to the family of the mom who was 34-years-old at the time of her death.

As reported by NPR, On Wednesday, April 17, Federal prosecutors announced that they are charging 31 doctors, seven pharmacists, seven other licensed medical professionals and eight nurse practitioners for alleged opioid pushing and health care fraud involving 350,000 prescriptions for controlled substances. The charges are a result of work by the Justice Department’s newly formed Appalachian Regional Prescription Opioid Strike Force. Fourteen health care fraud prosecutors were sent to regions of Appalachia known for rampant opioid abuse, overdoses and deaths in order to build cases. The work began in January, 2019 when they used data analysis to find outliers in opioid prescriptions. From there prosecutors issued search warrants.
