Personal Injury Claim for Parasailing Accident
About three to five million people go parasailing every year. Thankfully, most parasailing experiences turn out to be a wonderful adventure. Unfortunately, parasail accidents do happen; causing some to question parasailing safety and liability. Parasail accident statistics reveal the risk people take when they agree to be towed behind a vehicle (usually a boat) while harnessed to a canopy wing that looks like a parachute, known as a parasail wing.
If you or a loved one was injured in a parasailing accident because of the negligence of a parasail operator, seek the help of a personal injury lawyer right away. A wrongful death action may be appropriate if you lost a loved one in the accident. An accident attorney can discuss your legal rights and options.

Read MoreCan I File a Wrongful Death Claim For A Slip and Fall Accident?
While the snow and ice has cleared from the snowstorm in mid-January, the Pacific Northwest isn’t out of the woods yet. Slip and fall accidents increase during winter months because of icy walkways. Snow, sleet and freezing rain can all turn into hazardous traveling conditions. Pedestrians should take reasonable precautions to protect themselves from a fall by slowing down in icy conditions but property owners can reduce the chances of a slip and fall injury on their property by salting or sanding walkways.
Injuries from slip and fall accidents vary in severity from a bruised tailbone to broken bones and yes, even death. Senior adults over the age of 65 are particularly susceptible to slip and fall accidents leading to serious injuries; falls are the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among the older population. Each year at least 300,000 older people are hospitalized for hip fractures with more than 95 percent of hip fractures caused by falling. According to the National Council on Aging, one in four Americans over the age of 65 has a slip and fall accident every year. Every 11 seconds, a senior adult seeks emergency room treatment for a fall and every 19 minutes, a senior person dies from a fall. In fact, falls are the number one cause of fatal injury among seniors.

According to an article on Nationalfisherman.com, three crew members were caught underneath a crab boat on Tuesday night, January 14th. Firefighters came to the rescue by cutting through the hull of the overturned boat at the entrance to Coos Bay, Oregon. The rescue efforts began after a Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew saw the 38-foot crabbing boat struggling to navigate in heavy seas, before its deck lights went dark. The aircrew radio messaged the Sector North Bend command center and rescue crews were dispatched to locate the crew. Three hours later, the boat was found upside down near the tip of the north jetty at the bay entrance. Rescuers could hear the crew yelling from inside the boat. After using a battery-powered reciprocating saw to hack through the hull, firefighters helped the crew out and up the jetty rocks. According to North Bay Fire District Chief James Aldrich, all three men were rescued in stable condition and transported to the hospital.

As reported by komonews.com, new rules for bicycle safety went into effect in Washington State on January 1, 2020. The new rules were approved by Washington State lawmakers in May, 2019.
New WA State bike rules go into effect to reduce bicycle accidents
There are three components to the rule change:
- Drivers now have to give bicycle riders at least three feet of space when passing. The old rule asked drivers to pass cyclists at a “safe distance” but did not specify the distance.
- Drivers must move to the left lane (if there are two or more lanes of traffic) or into the opposing lane (if there is a single lane of traffic) to pass bicyclists on the road.
- If there is only one lane of traffic in each direction, drivers must slow down and allow at least three feet of space between their vehicle and the bicycle.

Read MoreThe NSC Estimates 163 Traffic Accident Deaths for the 2020 New Year’s Day Holiday Period
The National Safety Council estimates that 163 people will die in traffic accidents on U.S. roads this New Year’s Day holiday period. Many people choose to gather with friends and family to celebrate the new year and alcohol is almost always involved. More people traveling on the roads combined with more people consuming alcohol, is a recipe for increased traffic accident deaths.
Because New Year’s Day 2020 falls on a Wednesday, the holiday period will last 1.25 days, between 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 31 and 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, January 1. Most years, the New Year’s holiday period lasts longer because it gets combined with a weekend. Years with an extended holiday period come with the risk for more traffic fatalities.
