String of 3 DUI Crashes Reported Over the Weekend
While we have made great strides on education around the consequences of drinking and driving, there are still far too many accidents involving alcohol. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), each day about 28 Americans die in DUI crashes. In the 10-year period from 2010 to 2019, more than 10,000 people died every year in drunk driving car accidents.

String of 3 DUI Crashes Reported Over the Weekend
As reported by Whatcom-news.com, first responders were called to the scene of three single-vehicle car accidents over the weekend that involved a driver arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
The first accident was near the intersection of E Badger Road (SR546) and Van Buren Road in Everson. When first responders arrived, they found a car that had been on fire in a ditch; with the car still smoking. The driver had sustained minor injuries in the single-vehicle accident and was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
The second accident occurred on the southbound lanes of I-5 near the northbound rest area in Custer. The rollover crash involved a single driver with no vehicle occupants. According to a report by Washington State Trooper Kelsey Harding, the vehicle left the road and rolled about three times before coming to a stop on the freeway. The driver had sustained minor injuries in the single-vehicle accident and was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
The third accident happened in the 3500 block of Bennett Drive. A statement by Harding indicated that the vehicle had failed to negotiate a curve and collided with a power pole, temporarily cutting power to 787 PSE customer addresses. The BMW was estimated to have been driving about 50 to 55mph at the time of the single-vehicle accident. The driver had sustained minor injuries in the single-vehicle accident and was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
Single-vehicle collision
A single-vehicle crash has occurred when only one vehicle is involved in an accident. Perhaps surprisingly, single-car collisions carry a higher fatality rate than head-on or side-impact collisions. More than 8,000 people die in single-vehicle rollover crashes in the United States each year. Often, a single-vehicle accident is a runoff-road (ROR) crash. A ROR accident is when a vehicle leaves the roadway and moves onto the shoulder, median, roadside or parking lane, etc. and then crashes into an unmoving object like a tree, pole, wall, or fire hydrant. This is the type of accident that occurred in two of the three accidents over the weekend.
