Recall on 71,000 Fisher-Price Inclined-Sleeper Accessories for Infant Play Yards Announced
On Thursday, June 27, 2019, Fisher-Price and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of 71,000 inclined-sleeper accessories for infant play yards. The inclined-sleeper accessory is included with all models of the Ultra-Lite Day & Night Play Yard. The recall decision came as a result of safety concerns over babies sleeping at a 30-degree angle, not the report of any injuries or fatalities. This decision comes after Fisher-Price recalled about 4.7 million Rock ‘n Play Sleepers in April, 2019 that had been responsible for over 30 infant deaths in 10 years as a result of mis-use.
What to do if you own the play yard with the recalled sleeper accessory
If you own the play yard with the recalled sleeper accessory, stop using the accessory right away and contact Fisher-Price for a refund or voucher. Note that the play yard, changing station clutch accessory and carry bag are not part of the recall so they are safe to continue using.
Customer are welcome to contact Fisher-Price at service.mattel.com (click on “Recalls & Safety Alerts”) or at 866-812-6518 to get more information about the recall.
Infant sleep safety guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics
- Infants should sleep in the same room as their parents but on a separate surface like a crib or bassinet to decrease the risk of SIDS.
- Infants should be placed to sleep on their backs on a flat, firm mattress with a tightly fitted bottom sheet.
- Do not use inclined sleep products that require restraining the baby including strollers and infant car seats.
- No pillows, blankets or stuffed toys should be placed on the sleep surface.
- Do not use a bumper around the edge of the crib.
- Never fall asleep with your baby on the couch.
- Parents should avoid smoking in the house and never be under the influence of drugs or alcohol around the baby.
Products liability claims
If your child has been injured because of a product you used, you may be able to recover damages with the help of a defective products attorney. An defective products attorney who specializes in this area can determine if you have a defective product claim to make against the manufacturer, retailer or distributor by identifying the types and amounts of damages you have suffered and the cause of the accident. In some cases, defective products affect a large number of people; bringing the possibility of joining or starting a class action lawsuit. If you believe that you suffered an injury from a defective product because of the negligence of another; contact a defective products attorney for a consultation. The attorney can identify the defendant and the value of your claim and gather evidence to show whether the plaintiff’s injuries were caused by negligence and that they caused damages.
