When a motorcycle and a car collide, the outcome is rarely equal. Motorcyclists are at far higher risk for a fatal injury in a fatal motorcycle accident than drivers because of the lack of physical protection around them while drivers and passengers inside a car benefit from seat belts, airbags, and a reinforced metal frame.
If your loved one was killed in a fatal motorcycle accident due to a negligent driver, you do not have to navigate the pain and financial strain alone. Reach out to an experienced motorcycle accident attorney who can thoroughly evaluate your case, hold negligent parties accountable, and fight to protect your legal rights through a full and fair settlement.
Common Causes of Motorcycle Vs. Car Collisions
More than 50 percent of motorcycle vs. car collisions are caused by a negligent driver. Common scenarios include:
- Left-turn accidents where a driver turning left fails to see an oncoming motorcycle.
- Blind spot crashes where a driver misses the motorcycle when the rider is in the driver’s blind spot.
- Distracted driving where a driver doesn’t see the rider because they are texting, eating, or adjusting the radio.
- Failure to yield where drivers who don’t respect a motorcycle’s right of way put riders in danger.
- Driving too fast for road conditions where drivers fail to slow down in heavy rain, ice, or snowy conditions.
Common Injuries in Motorcycle Vs. Car Crashes
Motorcyclists involved in crashes with cars frequently suffer serious injuries, such as:
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spinal cord damage leading to paralysis
- Broken bones and fractures
- Severe road rash requiring skin grafts
- Internal organ injuries
- Fatalities
These injuries often require expensive and lengthy hospital stays, multiple surgeries, and months of rehabilitation. For many riders and their families, the financial, physical, and emotional toll of a collision is life-changing.
How a Motorcycle Accident Attorney Can Help in a Fatal Motorcycle Accident
When a motorcycle rider is injured by a negligent driver, they have the right to pursue compensation. A motorcycle accident attorney will collect evidence to build a compelling claim and aggressively negotiate with the at-fault driver’s insurance company to pursue the maximum compensation you deserve.
A motorcycle accident claim can cover:
- Medical bills and rehabilitation costs
- Lost wages and diminished earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
- Property damage to the motorcycle
- Wrongful death: funeral and burial costs
Please know that it is common for insurance companies to attempt to shift blame onto motorcyclists, by arguing that they were “reckless” or “speeding.” Working with an experienced personal injury attorney is critical to overcoming these manipulative tactics. A lawyer will cut through the nonsense by building a strong case to prove liability.
